I was given some surplus 5.56 brass recently... I was wondering what the most economical way to remove the crimp from the primer pockets is... I only have a few hundred to do, so I don't want to spend big bucks on some elaborate system, but I don't want to be here for ever and a dy doing these either. Any suggestions?

Also, I have been told by some other people I know that primers which have a selant applied to them are probably crimped as well, even though they are normal commercial brass... I have a pile of federal/american eagle (Load model number is AE223, bulk from wolveriene, if that clears anything up) ammo here that is sealed will be going into my reload pile as soon as I work through it, anybody confirm/deny this?

Thanks in advance!
Kyle

... There's a Primmer pocket "crimp remover"(swager) available, mine is an old RCBS, that just slips over the presses ram. An extra step admittedly, but really, neither all that expensive, nor time consuming. If there's any concern about sealant, just use a primmer pocket cleaner and that should remove any areas of concern. ..... David K.

i have used both the press reamer and the hand reamer and find that both are slow and dont always take the crimp out. the way i take the primer crimp out now is with my cordless drill and the right size drill and gently take the crimp out of the case. it may sound slow but it can be fast and sure, once you catch on and take out the crimp only and not too much of the other brass.

when i purchased my 3000 lot of mil 223 brass i wanted to get rid of the crimp and the drill did a good job for me. happy reloading
