Surplus Moose Tag Draw Explanation

I am hoping someone can explain the surplus Moose Tag system. If I was to draw a surplus tag for my group (I was in Group 2 because it was my first application), am I still eligible for Group 1 next season? Secondly, if I did draw, can a surplus tag still be transferred to another member of my group...or the designated alternate?

Surplus tags do not affect your Pool status, but they cannot be transfered, they can be used for the purposes of group hunting.
 
What a joke the MNR is. Three of us have been calling steady since 7:00AM sharp. I have had no luck, my buddy has gotten through 6 times....it rang and rang until the line was disconnected each damn time. The one operator must be on an extended smoke break.
 
Its no joke. The call system is screwed. I have called continuously from 0600 (central time) with nothing but a shrill beep and a canned voice saying they can't direct any more calls. Just checked the web site and the tag I was hoping for zone is marked sold out. I am done with Ontario moose hunting and the Ontario MNR!

While I am thankful my group was able to get a cow tag....last one in our WMU, we were told....the system is a joke.
 
They need to get rid of the surplus altogether.

Do the Northern resident draw FIRST ( or get rid of it ), then throw the leftover tags into the main group/individual draws to be gobbled up and save us from the frustration of smashing our phones every August.

I got through 17 times and it rang and rang then disconnects. :mad:
 
My buddy received a call from the Ministry this past week because he didn't fill out the survey after the hunt last season. After congratulating him on a successful hunt in 35, he asked about this season. My buddy told him we were unsuccessful in 35, but got a surplus tag for 21A. Long pause on the phone and the Warden said, "Good luck with that!" My buddy was stunned. He has been a successful deer and Moose hunter for 35 years (never in 21A mind you) and had never heard a Warden speak so frankly before. When asked why, when the MNR is giving out so many tags there, the Warden told him that they are moving tags from other areas they want to restore, and since 21A is such a big zone, it ensures that the MNR gets its tag money and keeps hunters coming back. When asked why 35 has so few tags (17) he said they are restoring it for the Natives.

I had a great first time Moose hunt last year, but I won't be going North this year after that conversation. Sure, they win, but I will keep my money in Eastern Ontario and focus on the deer hunt. ####'em
 
They need to have a guaranteed group size for adult tags that's no greater than 8 people, no individual tags at all, scrap the calf hunt altogether, and control the native hunting.

That's what I think.
