Seeing as someone asked, I forget who...
I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago, they have three grades listed, I got a grade 2 for $590 plus tax and shipping. My main requirement was for a decent frame on the gun as I intend to use it for parts, however after cleaning it I decided to shoot it as is.
I'm not sure which agency they originally belonged to, mine has a sticker on the side with a shield with a black "N" in it and a five digit number. The gun has markings on it that indicate it was proof-tested in 1984, although one of the grips has a January 1985 production date on it, so I assume it left the factory early in 1985. Plus it has the old Tyson's Corner SIG arms import stamp on it. I'm guessing it was the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, because I can't think of any other agency using the P226 back then.
The gun has a low serial number on it, although it came with three mags that appeared to be early 1990s, one has the US assault weapons ban markings on it, so that one must be mid-90s. The mag conversion to ten rounds was... erm... minimal, but they do only hold ten rounds.
From the pictures on their website I get the impression a lot of the guns date from that period to, so if you buy one, don't expect to get a 20+ year-old gun.
Anyway, I suppose I should post pictures, but with the exception of some wear on the left-hand side of the slide from a holster strap, the finish is about 90% which isn't bad for a 22-year old gun.
I noticed on mine that the front site was way off to the right (this one hasn't got night sights), and it looked like someone had tried to push it back with a screwdriver because of some scratches on the slide. Five seconds with my sight-pushing tool sorted it out.
This is probably the reason it was in such good condition, from the looks of it, I'd say it had had about 3,000 rounds through it. Probably then stuck in a holster and left on a shelf for 20 years when they couldn't fix the front sight.
My range session with it was a bit of a disaster, I wasn't familiar with the range, the ammo I was using (Winclean) or the targets and I haven't shot a pistol in awhile (thank you British Govt.), however I did put up a couple of decent 5-shot groups at 25 yards that were in the 3-inch range. It definitely shot a bit low, I'd say 2-3 inches at 25 yards.
Basically it shot like a 22-year old SIG-Sauer P226 with 3,000 rounds through it. Stiff trigger, all the problems they've fixed since then still intact, it was like a trip down memory lane.
For $590 with three mags it's hard to complain! It did come in a plastic case but it appeared that Canada Post had placed something heavy on it and crushed it.
When I took it out of the envelope I had several bits of plastic come out. Not that I care really, pistol cases for P226s is not something I'm in short supply of.
