Surprise 1949 SKS Find at Tenda

Went to Tenda this morning for a casual visit. Before I left, I asked the clerk if I can hand pick a 1952 Russian SKS. My expectations aren't that high as these Russian SKSs are refurb BBQ ones.

Funny enough, the first one he takes out is a 1949 SKS. While it is refurbished, it had all the correct features. Square gas block. Spring loaded firing pin. Loop take down pin.

Nice place holder to have until I find a better example.

I guess the moral of the story here is that always take a look at a couple SKS for a store visit. You never know what you will find.

This one is mismatched.

Reciever is stamped forced matched with the bolt, carrier, and trigger group.

The reciever and dust cover appears to be original matching.

Gas tube and piston has a different serial number.

Magazine has a different serial number.

Yes, it has the right contour, I have one in similar shape from westrifle a few years ago, looks like this one seen action after refurb, cool indeed!

It looks like the twin sister to this one shared at gunboards a few years back.

The new owner brought it home and found this note tucked in the cleaning kit hole from the soldier to whom it was last issued:

Cool find . looks like the dude who put the paint on it was half in to bag . did you sand some of the paint off ? those rifles will work and work . they were made to function . happy shooting .
