About 25 years ago, a good friend, now deceased, gave me a No.4 full wood with no bolt. Somebody gave it to him. We shared a love for old milsurps. I managed to find a bolt a while ago, so this morning I dug the rifle out of the pile and stuck the bolt in. Hmm. Serial number on the rifle started with a "B". What is this thing? A little deeper check revealed that it is a POF! All these years I've watched for a good POF. I did score one from a fellow CGN'r, and now I have two.

So, now I will have to clean the old one up, check the headspace, and go shoot it in my old friend's memory. I know he will be watching with his big smile, while at the same time giving me that funny look when he thought maybe I had missed something obvious. Laird, you are still one up! :)

I have a couple of nice POF No4 MkII rifles. They both have .310 bores. This doesn't particularly come as any big surprise, considering they also issue combloc type weapons. The .310 bores would be the best way for them to go and definitely make a lot of manufacturing easier. You can say what you like about Pakistani methods but if nothing else, they are very practical. I had two other Pakistani No4 MkII rifles with .311 bores and I am sure there are others with larger bores out there as they are likely built with plus or minus specs as are all military rifles.

I really like both of mine and they will both shoot .308 diameter bullets acceptably as well as the more common .312. They do exceptionally well with the .310 Speer flat base 125 grain bullets made for the 7.62x39.

I recall a good number of years ago now visiting a local gunsmith and while there, looked at a bunch of guns that he had just purchased at a Wildlife Dept auction. One of the rifles was a Swedish Mod 42B. The rifle had no bolt or carrier assembly, but I knew that a friend of mine, also a local gunsmith, had a bolt and assembly for this model rifle. With this in mind, I bought the rifle.

Shortly after, I went to my buddy's shop and dug out the bolt and assemble for the rifle I had bought. When we examined it, we discovered that the serial number on the bolt & assembly that my buddy had was the same as the serial number on the rifle.

Apparently, my buddy had bought some parts and other stuff of a guy about two years previous and the bolt was part of that.

We surmised afterwards that the hunter that had this rifle confiscated must have pulled the bolt out before he got caught and kept it, eventually giving it to the guy that sold it to my buddy.

Strange coincidence.

I picked up a POF No.4 about two years ago form a local shop. Paid a fair 450 for it. It was grubby but cleaned up alright. Never shot it however because several months after I bought it I Unfortunately wanted a pistol and since at the time I was at a lower pay grade I thought to myself "I would rather focus on Canadian and British Enfields" and sold it to a co-worker for what I paid.

I regret that decision. First milsurp I sold and will probably be the last one I sell. Thinking back it was stupid since the pistol is a modern on and can be bought new from a shop while those No.4's are getting hard to find. I also learned that they apprently have alightly tighter bores then most Commonwealth ones and like to shoot shoot the slightly smaller bullets commonly available for the 7.62 Russian calibers. It would have made a nice everyday shooter so I don't wear out the Long Branches I have.

Not too long ago I got a hold of the guy, asked if he wanted to sell. No such luck on that one.

I'm an Idiot.

This old girl has no rear sight. I think I might have a no drill rail for one at home, so I will put that on and attach an el cheapo red dot and shoot light WW loads. Maybe 10 gr. 700X under 150-160 gr. Gotta get it up and running now. :)

Red dot no workee. I have an SK no drill mount, good only for larger Weaver. So, I put on an old Weaver V9 scope I had. Looks good on the rifle. Now to try it out! :)
