22LR Would a couple of passes with clean dry patches be a suitable substitute for the boresnake ?

Don't see why not - just remember the fouling-shots after the passes!

I use them on my 10/22 when I get back from the range, and I imagine they would be just as good for a quick hoppesing of the bore between brands at the range.

dryfire, whatever works, the main thing is to re-foul the barrel with different wax from different brands. I myself was very sceptical when I first heard the concept. Some old geezer told me "rifle gets used to ammo" - I looked at him funny. It sure turned out he knew what he was talking about. So, when you are trying new brand it is better to start with clean bore and re-foul it before shooting for groups.
