There is something very wrong with the way these rifles have been labelled as prohibs... simply because they sort of look like an AK. (I don't even know why I posted it here in the Black and Green Rifle Forum). The Dragunov was not designed as an assault rifle and never meant to be full auto. It is just a semi auto(something like an M-21), meant to fire a few(accurate) shots in a semi auto mode, using an ancient round(7.62x54R), making it more like a hunting rifle. It has a long barrel, which makes it impossible to conceal(if anyone was stupid enough to try), way longer than 18.5 inches. Not exactly a gangsters first choice in a drive by shooting... I understand the "evil" AK might raise some pulses, same with other assault rifle like the FN, AR-18, Galil, etc...if you look at it from a Lieberal point of view... But what is wrong with a nice semi auto, long barreled, heavy hunting rifle using an old 1890s rifle round? Is there something that I am missing here? Is there a way this can be taken off the prohibited list and reinstated as a non-restricted. It may just be wishfull thinking, but I am making good sense...and NO, I don't hate the Liberals, they are people too, who just made a few bad decisions...in our(gun owners) opinion.

I don't hate the Liberals

mistake #1

wasn't the whole C-68 thanks to good ol Kim? old type conservatives? but please hate the libs anyways

mistake #2

don't bother trying to find reason in the whole restricted/prohib thing. there ain't nun. how could a bullet from one gun be OK, but another not-OK?

just sit down, have a beer and think happy thoughts while cleaning the guns you have.......

Mistake #3 you used a double negative which is negating your initial intended reaction. ain't or none is more correct response. :)

That is a very good advice, you should maybe work as a psychologist(if you aren't one already...:D ) But I have nightmares, I wake up in the middle of the night, realizing that the AK I was holding wasn't real:( . And I am thinking I am decent person, same as other gun owners around this country, so why am I being ####ed? I don't deserve this. Up until recently this issue did not bother me because I simply did not understand how bad things were really getting. Now I am worried about the guns I have, never mind those that I will never be able to own...I hear people say that the Mini 14 and the VZ-58 will become prohibs. That sort of rumours do not let me "have my beer and have happy thoughts while cleaning my guns..." I love my VZ-58...
My humble opinion...

The Draganov/SVD rifles are NOT an AK variant. IMO If someone had the inclination and resources a challenge to this ruling would have a decent chance of sucess. A firearms examiner from the RCMP lab is not going to want to testify in court, to something which is not true. The trick would be getting a hearing.

there's also a lot of the "looks like a duck" thinking going on- ie if it LOOKS like a ak, it must be a variant- muck easier to just lump everything in by looks-
