I bought one of the snipers from PS militaria and finally had time to get it out to the range with one of the repro mounts/scopes from West Rifle.

After playing with the gas system for awhile, it was time to get the rifle punching paper.

The nice thing about this mount system is you can still use the iron sight while the scope is mounted. This got me on paper with the first shot at 25 yards. After 20 rounds of surplus ammunition was sent down range it was time to reach out to the 100 yard target. Very tight groups (Sub MOA) and I didn't have the typical first shot flyer which SVT's are know so well for tumbling out.

I was very surprised with the accuracy, I would be very confident hunting game with this rifle (as long as the gas system is working properly).

Anyone else play with these rifles/snipers?

All I need now is a real scope and mount to put on my 1941 SVT Tula Sniper.

I hope to try my 1941 sniper as well,i have an original 1941 scope on it with a repro mount. Original scope can be found on Ebay but manys of them are calibrated for the mosin sniper, since svt scope will fit on a mosin mount. The mosin calibrated scope are marked CB on the elevation turret. Real mount pretty much impossible to find and if you find 1, better have a fat wallet:)

Real mount is impossible to find. I have one given to us for copying from museum in Russia. We made replicas based on that and original drawings from factory that was making those.
You can find scopes from $800 to 1500 claim to be original. Some might be . Just be careful.

I can forward you links where you can buy straight from Russia. How safe it is for foreigner I do not know. I send relatives to pick those up and pay on the spot.

Cheers

PS SVT40 with original scope and mount is my favorite rifle. Out of 5 shots 100 meters I can get 5 cans no problem all day long. Hunting with those would be a breeze

Ludmilla Pavlichenko hunted with one for years; quite successfully I believe. ;)

I know of one original mount for sale, $1200 just for the hardware. I know the scopes are available as well, but most are adjusted for the PU and then again you are hoping the source is reliable. Numrich recieved several original SVT/PU scope but as they are optics and due to there $100 price limit on export, they will not ship to Canada. They will not even let you purchase with a Canadian Credit card and have them ship to a relative.
Even if they did, technically you still need a US export permit for optics.

I have to admit this sniper isn't my biggest priority right now. I am more worried about getting home and sighting in my M1 sniper and finishing my K98 SSR and LSR projects. I also have an original ZF4 scope/mount in the mail which I am excited about putting on my 'ac' G43.

Once I do get home, I will take the SVT out again and will try to post some pics of groupings, as once member was in doubt.
