Hey Guys
Quick question, just got a Mosin and a SVT from SFRC, mosin is great but the SVT spits out shells with a divot in the casing from a tooling defect I assume, this causes a failure to extract every 5-15rds, can this be easily fixed or should I send the rifle back?

Even when ejecting and extracting properly mine always dent the case. Nature of svt.

Try adjusting your gas system for failure to extract, and scrub the chamber really well. It is fluted and needs to be clean.

Fluted chamber? Man, things I did not know! The dent is in the exact same place every time, is that normal? Thanx for the info!

The casing is most likely dented because its bouncing off of the action cover or action. The SVT is not gentle on brass...

Yeah, the same thing happens to my svt.

Get a brass brush and scrub the chamber really well. Mine had some rust in and was preventing the extraction of shells same as you described. Upon thorough scrubbing, the problem went away.

As for the dents, pblatzz hit the nail on the head.

The fellers answered your ?. Whats your gas setting on? My SVT beats up the brass no matter what setting shes on, which is 1.3 by the way. Give the chamber a good scrubbing, it should fix the problem. Cheers.

yeap my friends SVT had the same issues. scrub the #### out of your chamber and adjust your gas port to 1.3 depending on the ammo you shoot also for the surplus stuff put it on 1.3

A good stripping and scrubbing sounds in order, any particular solvent to use?

Look up Ed's Red home made gun cleaner/solvent.
Very strong, industrial strength cleaner/lubricant at a fraction of the cost of any overmarketed/overhyped cleaner out there.
It's not advertised or packaged all pretty and #### but it will turn crusted carbon into jelly in a matter of seconds.
You can make a gallon of the stuff for about $10 when you buy the 4 ingredients.
I clean all my guns with it. It's awesome. My soviet rifles love it get's them squeaky clean!
Welcome to the forums by the way.
Cheers!
