Does anyone know how to convince an SVT to feed soft point ammo. My SVT jambs maybe 4 times out of 20 with SP ammo. I think the soft point hangs up on the bottom lip of the chamber but I'm not sure. Would be fun to take hunting white tail if I could get them to feed.
I read about a guy (maybe on here, not sure) who used a dremel tool to round the bottom lip of the chamber (creating a kind of feeding ramp) and it solved his feeding problems with his SVT. I think he had feeding issues in general, not just SP ammo, but it seems to me like this could work. Considering that I think the soft point hangs up on that spot.
Is rounding that edge a problem? Does anyone have an SVT that feeds soft points?

Use a different profile bullets or plastic-tipped spitzers. Maybe the Nosler Accubonds or Hornady Interbonds could solve your problem if you want to hunt with your SVT-40.
PP.

Think I have the terminology right... ;)

A bullet with a shorter ogive (think blue-box Federal .308 SP) will tend to run nose first into all the sharp transitions that a bullet with a longer ogive (military FMJ) rides right over. Using a bullet with an increased ogive/increased sectional density will help.

I was using PRVI soft points and the point of the lead has a small flat spot. Thats what catches. FMJ surplus is already starting to feed into the chamber when the side of the lead comes into contact with the sharp lip of the chamber. I think you guys are right, if I use soft points with a different profile I should be golden. Peace.
