SVT-40/Globco Mohawk 303 parts question

I just put one up on the EE milsurplus for a spring. Also put up the rifle in the EE with full disclosure. Irritated that the spring broke on me LOL. I was just hoping some one here new of a website to buy one from rather than playing the waiting game on the EE milsurplus for one.

Did you talk to their international department?

Last time I checked they add on like $25 USD to the order...

That spring might cost a few bucks.

Anyway, at least they have it.

google says they were re barreld from surplus lee barrels. There is not much info on these interesting pieces of history. All I can find is late 50-60s they were converted with 303 barrels because of plentiful ammo at the time and they figured people would rather shoot 303 rather than x54.

update picked up 2 springs. the recoil spring (that I needed) plus the gas rod spring just incase. springs were 11buck each and shipping was 17.75 grand total of 40.05. Well worth the price to get it up and running again. it was shooting just fine before the spring mangled up. Only semi auto 303 I can think of, pretty big and bada$$ boom stick.

Nice thing about CLOSED springs is that if one breaks, you can butt the CLOSED ends together (the ends become the middle) and use it like that in an emergency.

So have tried handloads in the rifle. I heard the gas operation
is sever and causes premature failure of the rifle.
I have one as well and scrounged parts of the ee in anticpation of problems.
Nice thing though mine came with a svt 38 magazine. Bought a scope
Mount off of Corwin Arms but not installed yet. Sorry bumpy bus ride
to work

Globe Firearms was located where the Vanier Parkway in inner city Ottawa now passes. I've been told their warehouse was a couple of rundown houses or a tiny commercial building, but absolutely jammed with everything and anything. The trouble in the pre-interweb days was advertising and distribution. A lot of their stash was old stock that wasn't moving. The staff needed to be paid. So, their main line was to sporterize all the old classics - Krags, six kinds of Mausers, bread and butter Lee Enfields and yes, Finnish capture SVTs. The additional factor was very limited ammunition supply, especially cartridges from those damn Russkies. Therefore, convert Soviet SVT rifles to an available cartridge in a package that would attract attention and pay the bills.

Yes, action is violent on these without proper gas settings and loads. I have examined quite a few over the years with badly battered actions, including one with the rear of the receiver broken right off.

Wow...and adjusting the gas piston doesn't mitigate that?

Wondering if the right thing to do in that case would be to convert it to manual straight pull by closing off the gas port? Better that than killing it with violent recoil damage.

I've been trying for years to get some pictures of the internals of one of these Mohawk 555's. No luck at all.

The people selling them either can't take pics or are in too much of a hurry.

That would be very important if as jb mauser says they get battered to death.
