Has anyone used their SVT40 sliding rear sight at ranges longer than 100 yds, and if so, what were your results with what ammo (surplus, commercial, match?)

My local range is limited to 100 yds, that's why I'm asking - AND I'm curious.

My son (a better rifle shot than I) can hit the 200 metre gong at the range 8 or 9 times out of 10. Pretty good for a 70 year old gun with iron sights. Used both surplus and new FMJ commercial ammo.

Me - 4 or 6 times. Working on it.

Haven't tried longer.

me and a friend took our Svt-40's out to 600m after a rough zeroing on a 3x3 target.
we were getting a 3 out of 10 hit which we kind of found impressive considering the movement of the rifle if you have ever seen the slo-mo's
all with surplus me with chinese and him with silver tip czech

I've never shot mine more than 200 but I think the bullet is very capable of further distance accuracy. In my opinion the iron sights and vision error is the hindrance of longer range shots. I'd like to hear from the boys with properly scoped SVTs to how accurate they shoot.

Scoped SVT's had ongoing problems with first round accuracy.Don't think the engineers ever did sort that one out?

I never did any group measurements because the range was too crowded and all were shooting 100 yds except me. BUT, there is an 8" gong that I rang continuously at 330 yards. I have never , ever even handled an SVT40 until I bought one last week. The second shot I took rang the gong. I missed high because I had trouble reading the numbers on the slide sight. (accidentally put it at about 450 yds) Once I dialed it down to the correct height, I had ZERO trouble hitting it everytime. There were a couple of "old timers" there, and they absolutely loved the gun and its accuracy. I am now officially hooked.
I used the MFS 185 gr zinc coated steel cased non-corrosive ammo from TRADE EX (one of our sponsors!!!)

My son and I both have one and love to shoot them as much as possible. We can shoot up to 200 yards with very decent groups for open sights !
