Svt 40 mag won't hold

I just got my svt 40, it looks perfect except that I can't get the mag to hold. The little lever mag release seems like it can't hold it firmly. Is there a trick or is it a faulty mag?

Doesn’t look like an SVT-40 mag at all. Can you post pics of just the mag?

It's definitely shortend, i don't think it would hold during a cycle like this

Ah, It used to be a SVT-38 mag. Shame it got cut.

Some mags just don’t fit. Was this bought from a store or private?

The mag release is locked in the rear position in the photo. Flip it down and forward.
