Hi all. I bought a pair of reproduction 5/10 mags for my SVT-40. At first, the rounds were not rising high enough out of the magazine so I filed the magazine lip down so they could hit wherever and slide up into the chamber. No problem, they all exit the magazine perfectly now...however.. they now catch 100% of the time on the lip of the chamber. I think the sides of the magazine lip are used to push the cartridge into the center before entering the chamber, whereas with my filed down lip they stay somewhat to the side and catch on the chamber rim. Any suggestions on what to do?

Mine did the same and I found that the lugs on the rear of the mag are higher then on the original so the mag sits lower and the rounds don't get caught by the bolt. So I guess cut them off and weld them back higher, or atlest that is what I'm thinking of doing. Will I? Probly not.

Get somebody who knows what they are doing to give you a hand, its almost impossible to do this kind of stuff over the internet. Simpler to use stripper clips to load the original mag.

Like Caleb says. The lugs on 2 of the repo mags I had were 1/4" too high. I moved them down and all was well. The mags locked in place okay but the rounds wouldn't feed. Best to get an original to compare them. I had picked up an SVT quite cheap with these 2 mags becaus of feed problems. The rifle was fine.
