Hey guys, i just bought a 1942 Tula SVT-40 and i noticed some strange markings on the receiver. I searched 7.62x54r.net and mosinnagant.com but i couldnt find anything.

The two marks i dont know are the (sSe) and the one above it that says "DE11UA".

Not sure if theres anything special here, but heres the right side of the receiver.

Let me know if you have any ideas.

Thanks

Jordan

JoeN has it nailed. It was a marking some countries started using but not many have made it a requirement. I believe DE stands for deutchsland, aka germany, and 11 being a year? Don't quote me though.

I have the same markings on my Tokarev TT-33 - the markings were explained to me by the dealer as: DE 11 = December 2011, UA = Ukraine. Makes sense, It was imported early in 2012.

The sSe in a circle seems to be part of the export marking.....

DE (Deutchsland) is Germany, many of the Ukrainian guns transited through Germany before coming to North America. If Canada had followed through with UN rules they would have been marked CA also.

I am curious about the (sSs within a circle), one of my SVT snipers purchased from PS has this same stamping. I have noticed that East German Converted Auto MP44's have an almost identical circle with three letters stamped inside.

Must be some German arsenal/import/export stamping???
