Has anyone ever heard of or seen a SVT 40 that was truly numbers matching? It seems that every single one I come across has a non-matching magazine. I understand that they were rebuilt post war, but, you would think there would be a few out there with an original magazine.

Magazines were not stored as part of the rifle when they were packed away. As I understand it, they were taken off and put in a seperate box. As I understand it, no attempt was made to match the magazines to their respective rifle afterwards.

Probably the true, non refurb, SVTs would be Finnish captured ones.

I think I may have the only one. I bought an SVT from Milarm with a mis-matched mag and then about a year later I found the rifle that matched the magazine in Sask; same serial number including the first two matching crylic letters (elector penciled). You could tell that the person that electro penciled the mag was the same person that electo penciled the rifle parts - identical script.

I don't know if mags were packed at random, or if they were messed up during re-packing after being pinned? I have seen two styles of SVT crates. Same dimensions but some have wood fittings to fit the mags and some do not those fittings.

I have one with a stamped serial matching mag! Same sized font as that stamped on receiver. Imported from Germany in 2009!
