Hey guys, so I was tearing down my SVT 40 earlier to give it a good cleaning after a day of shooting. I'm stripping the bolt and while doing so I put a bit of upward pressure on the claw of the extractor and it pops out! Much like an SKS once the pin is removed. I popped it back in and tried to remove it with just upward pressure and it popped out again. Am I worrying needlessly here? This extractor was always a bit of a mission to remove in the past. Nothing looks damaged. Perhaps the spring is just toast and no longer providing enough pressure?

Is the plunger and spring still there? On the inside of the ejector there should be a cut out with a jaw. See if that jaw is damaged and same with the bolt. The plunger with spring tension and the jaw to lock it is the only thing that holds it in. Hope it's an easy fix, the SVT 40's are drying up. I did hear however that Leverarms has a few Tula's left over and are in really rough shape. Try giving them a call.

Spring and plunger are still there. Extractor and bolt both seem fine. No damage. I should also mention that the rifle cycled and extracted perfectly. It was actually putting down the best groups to date!

I actually got one of the last tulas that they were selling online! It's a surprisingly nice rifle. Few stock repairs and the bore isn't perfect but aside from this little set back it's been better than expected

Leverarms? Weird, I just pulled 3 of mine apart to compare. They seem all the same to me. Make sure you depress the plunger with the side of the ejector, push and engage the jaw, then make sure the plunger is seated correctly.

So they pop out with just slight finger pressure? I used to have to gently push the plunger back with a plastic pick and then pull some voodoo to get the extractor out while compressing the spring.

It pops back into place fine. Apply pressure, Clicks into place and appears to function. Plunger sits perfectly into the jaw.

I picked up a grade A Podolsk in January. Did they secure it in the box? I wasn't to happy how they shipped mine. Tradex has Tula's and Izzy's for $650 right now.

That's very weird! I'm at a loss of ideas then. Maybe is just worn out? They were all refurbs so maybe a worn one slipped through the cracks. Maybe Call Leverarms tomorrow, tell them what's going on. Maybe they will ship you out a new bolt? Try and talk to the older guy, the kid is a little bone yodler.

No problems with your extractor. I have fews SVT that extractor can be poped out very easily. Its not an issue since the extractor cant pop out when the bolt is coupled in the carrier, just be careful when you remove the bolt from the carrier for cleaning.

Mine was actually very well packaged. The thing couldn't move at all in the box. That's odd that they didn't package yours very well.

Glad to hear it's a normal condition. I know that parts for these rifles can be hard to find so that was my cause for concern. Crisis averted!
