I recently bought a SVT-40 and sometimes it double fires. The rifle was cleaned perfectly, including the bolt, firing pin, and trigger group as well. Could anyone help me with this problem?

Zygy

Check to make sure the safety sear is in place!!!! The SVT 40 had a second sear just like an FN and they are sometimes removed by people who are unsure what they are.

I was using light reloads, 38gr of IMR 4895, so that could be creating the problem, but on the other hand, the bolt stop works perfect with this load, so I don't know.

Regarding the safety sear, I am not sure which part this is, but the gun I bought was refurbished by the Russian arsenal, so I don't think that it would be missing the part. If someone could provide me with a drawing or schematic of what part it is, it would be greatly appreciated.

Zygy.

Do your research and learn the same way the rest of us did. Google for images of SVT40s, look around for exploded views and read the parts lists. The internet is a huge and amazing place, with knowledge (and a kick in the pants) at every turn.

problem solved, it was caused by light loads. I increased the powder charge from 36gr to 49gr of IMR4895 and now it shoots like new.

Thanks,
Zygy
