i just recieved my SVT 40 and can anyone out there explain / help why i cannot snap the trigger assembly back into place in the reciever. the hammer is cocked and the latch at the rear of the reciever is swung to the left. the grooves line up, but no matter how much i press down on the trigger guard/assy she just will not snap into place. i feel like i am forcing it and that should not be. any help ? thank you

Sometimes, trigger guard need help of a soft maillet to snap into place. I have 3 svt, one of them need a good tap to click in place. Assuming that the release catch work freely, give him a sharp blow with a plastic maillet if you have one, a wood block can be good too.

The ferrule inside the lower receiver (where the cleaning rod goes) is part of the lock. As I recall .... there is an interference notch on the rotating safety that normally doesn't do anything, except when you are trying to get the trigger guard off. Push in the ferrule from the back when you are moving the tip of the latch off the trigger guard. One way is impossible, the other way is easy.

Most of them are very tight to fit back together. A C-clamp or carpenters clamp works very well for this. A 2x4 or mallet also works.
