I bought an SVT this fall after wanting one for sometime now. I've owned an SKS for about 4 years now and absolutely love the durability decent accuracy and fun factor it brings to the table so I figured theres no way an SVT was going to disappoint. Like all guns I buy I intend on keeping them forever and really enjoy making them my own, collector value or historical significance mean nothing to me, especially on items that were produced in the millions. That being said heres some pictures of what i've done so far. Refinsished the stock with tung oil (many coats). Small Rail mounted on the fore stock for UTG bipod. 1 inch recoil and lop pad. Stripped and Reblued the bolt carrier which I really like, so much so I did the same thing to my SK. I've got a corwin arms Scope rail and a Leapers 4-16X44 scope and a Tac-pro cheek riser in mind. I think that platform is going to make a really fun rifle for lobbing some heavy bullets far down range.
My good camera broke. I apologize for some blurry cell phone pics, the bolt bluing and finish aren't given due diligence with the cell cam.

Had to Throw in the SKS.

Nice. I don't have an SVT-40 yet, but plan on getting one. Sometime this year I plan on getting keepers for custom builds, SVT-40, SKS and Mosin. It's always nice seeing what people do with theirs. Thanks for posting.

Great looking SVT, also liked the perforated metal handguard on the SKS, now I want one! I like to preserve old things exactly as they are but
you have done a great job of revealing how beautiful that stock looks underneath.

Thanks for posting
Ive got a bolt someone really neglected, what kind of blueing did you apply?

I used Birchwood casey Super blue which is designed for hardened metals that contain alloys and nickle. I've never blued anything before in my life so it was an interesting process. The Bolt carrier metal reacts very weird to bluing agents and almost gets a slag on it when you let it sit for a couple minutes and really looks like ####. Super blue is a very potent bluing agent I think. I found that a big brass wire brush on a drill between coats of bluing really made all the difference and gave me an awesome finish. Also making sure the metal was completely clean of all contaminants was pretty key.

x 2 on that rail. The problem I've seen is that the nut doesn't hide sufficiently in the back of the bolt cover. It was sticking out and hitting the back of the bolt, so I had to shave a little off the nut. It went, and it is a testimony to the Corwin guys that after all my rather un-skilled screwing, it still wound up working like a charm, and shoots nice at 50-60.

Does anyone else notice that men lie about three things : ###ual exploits, fuel economy, and accuracy of the firearm they're currently stumping?

I wish there was an after market stock available like arch Angel or something. Wouldn't have to mess with the original stock (which I kinda feel is a little flimsy). A stock that is more solid might make an noticeable improvement on accuracy.

Nice to hear some more first hand experience about the rail. I wish it wasn't going to be 140 bucks to the door but I guess thats pretty reasonable considering there isn't alot of offerings for the SVT. The stock on mine is an AVT and it seems super soild I looked for gaps between the receiver and the wood for possible shimming/bedding with cork. There is zero movement on this thing fits tighter then my 10/22 out of the box.

I have an AVT stocked SVT40 that is tight in the stock too. Since it was already tight I "acurized" it using the Mosin method of placing cork under the barrel to attempt to control the barrel harmonics. I had to sand some high spots out of the stock as well. It helped!

In addition to these photos below I've also had my fill of the hottest women on the planet and drive a POS VW diesel golf that gets 4.7 l/100km. :)

Thats pretty good for irons at 100m dude. So shimmimg the barrel for harmonics actually improved accuracy eh. I wont get to really test mine out untill april and start dialing it in and testing this method vs non shimmed. Thanks for the reply and pictures getting me excited for spring.
