Hello All!

Bit of an SVT 40 nut here! I've got a 40 Izzy, 41 Podolsk, and 2x 42 Tulas, one of which is a sniper, the other one I picked up as a parts gun for 60$, but hoping to restore. Looking for some advice/seeing If anyone has any parts they are willing to part with.

1. Repro Scopes/Mounts - I love history, and love my rifles to be as historically accurate as possible. Thus with my sniper, I am looking to get a scope and mount for it. Understanding that I have a better chance of being struck by lightning while winning the lottery at the same time compared to finding an original scope mount, I am looking for any recommendations for Repro mounts. I have heard tell of some repro mounts damaging the notch at the back of the rifle, anyone shed any light on this?

As for the Scopes themselves, anyone know of any original ones? or of where to find a solid repro?

2. My parts gun was sold to me for 60$ because it "would not cycle". Well, it cycles beautifully, however when releasing the trigger to fire another round, the sear does not reset unless I push the trigger forward. Upon investigation the little split metal trigger spring has broken. Anyone know of a good place to find a replacement.

Further, it didn't come with a mag or cleaning rod( I can find that on Ebay). But does anyone know of any spare mags floating around that need a good home?

3. Bayonets - I know the bayonets are a little harder to come by but not impossible. As much as I'd love to buy 4 right off the hop, I don't have that kind of money yet (still waiting on the lottery!). However, if anyone has one for sale to go with my 42 sniper, shoot me a message!

Merry Christmas everyone!

Repo scope, parts and mount can be found on ebay.

Mags come up on ee. But its cheaper to buy a refurb SVT and part it out

You should call up Martin at Corwin Arms and have a little chat with him. As I understand it he has some stock on stuff that isn't on his site that he could help you out with. Corwin Arms is a great dealer too.

Very rarely an original SVT scope mount appears on EBAY but you need really deep pockets. In the US, SVTs with authentic sniper rails and notches are running up to 2 K+ without a scope or mount. When these guys go shopping they will probably be willing to put $500 US ($730 Cdn) into a genuine mount.
PU scopes are common on EBAY. One calibrated for SVT ballistics is rarer but they come up once in a while. As a practical matter the distance scales aren't very important in most cases and the ammunition you use probably won't match the calibrated ballistics anyway.
Replacement parts are pretty rare but I have seen one or two trigger groups for sale (from a Canadian EBay source - typically they won't ship these kind of parts outside the US from either EBAY or places like Liberty Tree).
Magazines and bayonets are ridiculously over priced. There are some reproductions around with mixed reviews. Most magazines require some degree of fitting to work correctly so you can't generally take magazines from your other SVTs and use them interchangeably (some will; many won't).

But they sure are freaking sweet when all of your extra mags work properly!!

Definitely contact Corwin Arms with regards to a scope mount. He also has repro scopes that as far as I know are calibrated for the SVT. He probably also has some original PU scopes kicking around that he would sell you. You can also watch the EE for a scope and mount. They occasionally come up for a pretty good price. As said previously Ebay is also a goo spot to watch for scopes and mounts so have an eye there.

All repro mounts are more or less equally bad. As most of them are not marked in any way there's no way to tell you which one is better. If you have a chance to inspect mount in person make sure buffer spring is really hard to compress. Workaround I use for repro mounts consists out of two parts 1) either finding mount with stiff spring or replacing spring and 2) covering the notch with a layer of brass, shaped in form of notch - I use .45 casing to make a cover, thick brass takes the damage and "raises" the notch to the level of mount cross pin, should hold several hundreds or rounds, then make new one.
Original mount - you need deep pocket (around USD $2500 deep) and even more luck finding one. And good luck competing with Americans with current exchange rate.

Sometimes you can find them on eBay. As it was said, you best chance is refurbished original scope with SVT calibration. Though calibration is more important for aesthetic reasons, rounds we shoot are way different from what they had back then.

Spare parts and original mags and bayonets - EE and eBay.

I belong to a US FB page where some guy was organizing asking a US magazine maker to fabricate an aftermarket magazine for the SVT-40 that actually worked. Haven't heard much anout it since then but let me check on that.

Cheers !!

Just got my SVT-40 mag delivered from Martin at Corwin-Arms. Looks like new heavily coated with grease; nicely engraved "1960" and number "11" in a circle. Maybe it's from the same factory 11 as my polish M44.
Tested the mag with dummy rounds and its cycles with no problems. Yes, it does hold the bolt open after the last round and is a snug fit.

Since Corwin Arms has stated that the magazines are new production multiple times I'm a little curious why the magazines are engraved "1960"?

They were marketed as 'newer' production. As in post war era.

Radom didn't produce any SVT-40 magazines during the post-war period that I'm aware of? No US or European collectors have any to my knowledge.

These are definitely new production. Maybe they were made by the current commercial and private Radom company that uses the Factory 11 logo as branding. I can't say for sure. The "1960" on them is interesting to say the least.
