Without pics or better description I’d suspect either gummed up or binding somewhere or overgassed. What is your adjuster set at? What ammo? Does it feed the next round ok? With the rod out and the chamber open, moved the piston it’s full range into the chamber and back. Does it bind or catch at all. Should move very freely. Which end pops out?
The long connecting rod on one of mine did this when I first took it to the range and shot it for the first time, one end of the rod had a burr on it and I smoothed it out with a file and that solved the problem. I’d look at the ends of the rod and the openings of the cups it sits in for any rough or deformed areas.
I've switched out a couple of parts for lighter titanium ones in my SVT-M... didnt run in this issue (yet?), so as the previous posts, something is catching on something else allright.
