The SVT-40 did have a model specific sling. However, production was stopped when The Great Patriotic War began. Almost all examples have been lost to attrition at this point and what most people think are Russian SVT-40 slings are actually not.
From 1941 onward the SVT-40 was issued with a Mosin sling. There are also photos of SVT-40s with ersatz general purpose / submachine gun slings.
A Mosin sling is both historically accurate and realistic as a SVT-40 sling. The originals are unobtanium. Even the most dedicated collectors don't have a Russian one.
On my avt stocked svt I use a mosin sling, on my normal stock and sling mount svt I use a chicom sks/ak web sling. Lever arms sells them for $10, I have them on a couple shotguns and my new .22 bolt. Great little sling at a great price and they look pretty damn correct on a red rifle.
Original Mosin slings are dirt cheap in Russia. Unfortunately none of the online stores which sell them sends them abroad, or even takes credit card payments. Russian stores all use medieval payment systems, like paper bank payments or cash or some weird online payment systems like Webmoney.
This one if for example, original post-war issue: http://www.feldwebel.ru/shop/UID_399_remen_pogonnyy_dlya_vintovki_mosina.html
Just 200 rubles which is ridiculous 4 Canadian dollars - virtually free in my books!
I went with a PPSH sling for mine. It's much closer to the sling that was originally designed for it than the Mosin slings are, and I think it just makes for a cleaner presentation/look that the Mosin dog collar slings.
As has been mentioned, though, the Mosin, PPSH slings would both be "period correct" in the sense that the rifle may have been issued with either one.
Ah, close enough. the one i got was in pretty good shape, it just smelled like a Bulgarian guys old boot. think it was in a damp basement for a hundred years.
Milarm in Edmonton has some great 91/30 slings and M44 carbine slings. They got them out of Bulgaria and the have discounts if you get 3x or more slings.

They are actually Bulgarian slings for Bulgarian 91/38s and 91/59s. Not really correct for a M38 nor a M44. The Red Army issued 91/30 pattern slings with all Mosin variations from the 91/30 forward in one length.
