So what makes an svt 40 a sniper?
The reason I ask is that after closer inspection of my svt 40, I noticed two grooves. One grove on either side of the reciever. My question is there any way to be sure it was a sniper rifle? Maybe the serial number or by stampings?
My serial number is hb6407 but the h and b look wierd LOL
I'll try to post pictures when i can find the camera.
Cheers

The two grooves were the scope mounting rails and were machined into a good number of receivers. BUT the ones actually used as sniper rifles had a small groove ground into the top of the receiver to accommodate the cross bolt that held the scope mount together. It would be on top of the small portion at the back behind the cover that slides off for disassembly, and is quite noticeable. Some of the notches were cut at the factory and others were filed into the rifles by armourers, leading to a couple different styles of notch as well.
