Hey on my SVT im having a problem running it on the lowest gas setting, Im using steel cased MFS 203gr soft point ammo and on the low 1.1 gas setting it not only doesn't cycle, but it is really hard to extract the spent cartridge out of the chamber. l It cycles flawlessly on 1.7 setting, and on 1.5 it still cycles but sometimes doesn't eject the shell fast enough and it gets caught by the bolt closing. im going to get some head spacing dies to check the head spacing. So I'm curious if other people have a problem with the cartridges sticking in the chamber with these guns, and/or how it was fixed if it was fixed.

If the gun has seen lots of surplus you may benefit from a chamber polishing/cleaning as the lacquer tends to build up and bake on inside the chamber.

Lots of info online about this with Mosin's and SKS's.

I do agree with Stevo however. If the gun functions fine on a higher gas setting whats the problem? Just turn up the gas and shoot.

No real problem with it on the highest setting, I had read somewhere, might have even been on here that the highest gas setting is hard on the action. but I will continue to run it like this because it works. and polishing the chamber and the bore is something im going to defiantly look into doing.

If wasn't designed to run on 203gr ammo. By running it, your rifle is going to wear a lot more quickly but in your situation, I would just polish the chamber and turn the gas up a little

It can be hard on the gun IF it's more gas than you need to operate it reliably.

Rifles are individuals, there are often enough differences in tolerances and dimensions that what works for one won't work for the other. Having to run a higher setting than nominal isn't a big deal.

I have to run mine on 1.5 with heavy fmj's. One thing I noticed with my rifle however is sometimes the gas regulator works its way loose to the point you can turn the knob with your fingers very easily, none of the gas system is worn though and the threads are fine.

I'm wondering if I just strip the gun, put to setting and then tighten it up if it will stay. It might only be an issue created by me moving the adjustment knob while I can't retighten the gas cylinder internally.

Just wondering about other peoples experiences as I haven't fired the gun much.

The gas tube must be very tight to prevent the regulator from moving. Tight as you can(without stripping the threads ofc).

Yeah,

I refered to the gas setting like you(185 non-corr), no matter how much polished and scrubbed 1.2 didn't cut it, so upped to 1.5 and is a sweet machine there. At 1.5 mine barely makes it out of the action just under-handed throws empties like heads on a pillow (but ejects every time)....

Any follow up on suggestions by OP would be most welcome as I and a friend have just experienced the same today with his ''new'' SVT.
