AFAIK nobody makes such a thing. Some Mosin side mounts work.
Not too many commercial options. The repros as you found out are too expensive. There are some out there but appear more home grown. The only one I saw that was commercially available was from B Square but they no longer offer it.
So shortly after my post above, I purchased something from amazon and came across a shotgun mount...the M87 tactical mount by UTG. It reminded me somewhat of the original scope mount for SVT40. So I figured I'll buy it and see how it fits. It arrived yesterday and I was surprised to find that it sits nicely on the SVT40 as if somehow it was intended to. The rail stick further out by an inch and a half and can get in the way if you use a stripped clip to load. To secure the mount, it came with 2 pre-drilled holes on each side. I have a railed version and this mount would probably work better in later versions without the rail. Just like the B-Square mount, you have to drill holes to the SVT. I have only tried to fit the mount and not install...but I will likely keep the mount.
