I am currently nearing the end of a crate of Chinese 180 grain 7.62x54r ammo. The ammo I have in the waiting is I believe 150 grain light ball ammo. The gun shoots well with the Chinese stuff , what gas system adjustments will I need to make switching to the 150 grain ammo?

SVT-40s can be flaky on an individual level when it comes to gas system adjustments. An adjustment maybe necessary for one rifle but not the one beside it. Only way to know is to load up the 150 and give it a try.

Mine, for example, has never needed an adjustment between various types of ammunition (I honestly don't know if I've ever even touched the setting) , but others on CGN and ### have reported needed to adjust their setting between different loads.

It's an adjust as you shoot type thing, by the looks of them. Although my first svt shoots Bulgarian or russian silvertips, MFS soft points and new chinese Norinco equally well on the 1.3 gas setting.

I have only put 30 rounds of mfs non corrosive through mine, tried the 1.5 setting that it came on with no issues, cleaned, tried 10 rounds next time out on 1.3. thought it kicked a little harder but no failures. I vowed to only feed her premium though hahahaha :)
