I have an SVT, SKS and Mosin 91/30.
What should be my next Red purchase?
M38? M44? Are they different enough to add to my collection?
I have crates of 7.62X39 and 54R so something in that caliber is preferable.
Is there such a thing as a Russian surplus shotgun?
:runaway:

Westrifle and Corwin Arms both have nice M38s in stock now. They're a ton of fun; handy size and HUUUUUGE fireballs. I prefer my M38 to my M44 as I find the balance is a little better... That folding bayonet looks cool, but it's heavy!

I've not seen surplus Russian shotguns; just the commercial ones they're producing.

X2 on the M38 and 44

I'd snag a M44 first then the M38.

Of course, if you can afford it (and the wifey lets you :d ) get both at the same time!!!

The actions are the same as the 91/30, yet they're both carbine length. The M44 has the permanently attached bayonet, while the M38 won't take a bayonet at all.

Have fun, good luck and may i recommend a recoil pad buddy :)

I ordered one of those ^^ the night I first shot my Mosin. That steel plate on the butt HURTS.

I already own 2 of the TT33's. I had to buy the second one because I never got to shoot the first one because it was impossible to pry it out of my daughters hands.

When I was in the same position, I picked up an M44 - because I stumbled across one at a gun show at a great price.

Great little rifle, a lot handier than the 91/30.

Then I went with the M38 and found out something curious - the M38 is lighter and handier than an SKS, easier to tote around in the bush, fantastic all around gun, with a cartridge that will solve any problem that needs solving.

The M38 is by far my favourite practical rifle of the bunch. I'm working on turning it into a scout rig (purists can calm down, it's taking me a while because I want to do it in a way that doesn't require any permanent modifications.)
