Hoping someone can help me out with me "new" SVT 40 I took to the range today to put a few rounds through. I am having trouble with the rounds feeding into the chamber, please see the 3 pics below.

I am not sure if it is the magazine, or the rifle. When the round is stuck in this position and I pull the magazine out slightly, it is angled enough to chamber.

When I had the magazine apart, I did have the spring launch out across the room due to the plate being stuck on there pretty good. Could I have the spring in backwards?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Is this an aftermarket magazine? You mag lips look rolled in too much probably holding the front of the round low or pointing down and hitting the end of the barrel.

Dragon I'm new to SVT's and you may get more results on the Red Rifle forum. My magazine viewed like yours has the very front lips hidden under receiver and the main body lips further outward. My cycles good. It's an Izzy '41 like yours.

Not sure of the fix, but the lips I think are holding your rounds too low to go into chamber

Also wheres your Action cover/ Charger guide, I thought it should be in view in a couple of those pictures? The end of the piston looks different as well, not flush at the end like mine and looks countersunk. Maybe mine isn't correct or there are many differences between rifles. The Red Rifle guys would have answers for sure.

It should all be there! Might just be how I cropped them.

I'll take a look about the piston, I made sure to have it reassembled the way it came!

I'll have to examine the mag and the best way to fixing that. It seems like the most logical explanation and does not look like it would need a lot of work.

Originally mags required minor fitting, thus mags issued with rifle had rifle serial numbers. In most cases you can swap and use any other mag, but "in most", not all cases. It's normal to do some filing, fitting, expanding or forming with the mag.

I guess I'll be doing some of that to get my repro mags (bought through Westrifle) to feed properly.

Dragon any luck getting your magazine into function shape? It would be nice if you had another mag from someone else's rifle that functions perfectly in yours, then you would have a good template to massage gently your own mag into spec for your rifle.

Before you do anything, you can always go to the store you got it from and try few other magazines or If you are coming to Burnaby Gun Show. Bring the rifle I have few original magazines. Try few if one works better we will just trade one for one.

Dragonbait I believe your problem may have just been solved. Bravo Corwin.

It's a staggered magazine. Does it FTF on both sides? From the 5 round magazine it feeds from the left lip on 1, 3 and 5 and from the right lip on 2 and 4. If it fails on just one side check the lips for symmetry. Use a level across the lips with the base of the magazine on a flat surface.

I haven't had a chance to work on the mag, too busy during the week!

I may take Corwin up on the offer though, I may just bring the magazine to the show since we are planning on making it out this weekend anyways. Not sure if I need to bring the rifle as the magazine fits fine. Thanks for the offer, always great service from Corwin-Arms!

@marc_j: it is pretty much consistent FTF, the lip is slightly curved into the middle.

If I can't make a swap work with Martin, I will be working on it on Monday since it's a day off here in BC.

Quick update: ended up taking the rifle to the show and Martin helped out. He tried a few mags he had with him, one of which did not fit at all. They all looked like they would have the same issue so I kept the one I had. Martin had some new production mags so I decided to buy one. Haven't tested it at the range, but did a function test with some snap caps and works great. May need some minor fitting/breaking in, but at least it actually loads!

I'll see what I can do to the original mag at some point. Thanks for all the input on this!
