SVT40- lightly pitted bore.

Bought an SVT40 described as good condition and took it home and cleaned it out. The bore is lightly pitted in the grooves all the way along but the rifling is sharp and without pitting. It has been thoroughly cleaned, its not dust cosmoline etc.

Should I ask for a refund or just shoot it and not worry about it?

Leaning more towards just shooting it, just thought I should get a second opinion.

If it's described as good condition I wouldn't expect to see a pitted bore!

Such thing should be advertised!

Unless the gun was so cheap you aren't upset that is.

See how it shoots first. If it's minute of barn door at 100 yards due to the pitting, send it back. If it's fine regardless of pitting, I'd keep it.

Thats one of the main reasons I don't purchase guns on-line.
I inspect all my firearms very good before I buy... which is not an option over the internet. (hard to convert myself to 1's & 0's)

It wasn't a member, it was a retail store. Before removing the cosmoline it was not obvious the bore had any pitting so I wouldn't call it dishonest, the outside of the rifle is in very nice condition. And it was the usual 300 bucks

The problem with this is I may not have time to shoot it for a month or more but I suppose I could make time.

You gamble when you buy milsurp rifles... sometimes you get lucky, other times you don't. I bought a SVT and Mosin with mint, shiny bores. Got lucky. Not everyone does. Sorry to hear this, but I don't think you have much recourse unless you ask the store for an exchange.

Lightly pitted, but sharp rifling is some ratings systems version of "Good". I think pitting throughout would be considered fair in others.
Unless he said it was mirror bright with sharp rifling, your position is a little weak. It shouldn't affect accuracy one bit, but will be harder to clean, as the pits will trap crap.

It's a crap shoot with milsurps. I've had surprises, good and bad.

My original position was to keep it so you are a little bit off in that statement, just thought I should check in here to make sure that wasn't a crazy idea.

Not unusual for a milsurp,particulary an SVT. Slight pitting will not interfere with accuracy. Could you post pics of the bore? Thankyou
