SVT40 parts source needed

Yep, you've got it. I need it to not function, but not in a way that prevents it from functioning in the future. It has to be a reversible neutering, if you follow.

Well I don't want to lecture you on the laws of safety and storage, so I won't. but if it's ever got a chance of being around live ammo and/or little hands - take the firing pin out completely - you don't need it to look good. Better yet remove the bolt. [and leave the carrier]

Reason being is that pin in those things is free floating - even a broken one can light a round off and they are well known for slam fires [mine went full auto one day when I first got it].

To sean69
whole front sight, bayonet lug muzzle brake unit with gas valve we have in stock $63.00
To Dark Alley Dan Firing pin $39.00 2-3 weeks wait time

Um no. The SVT has a spring on the firing pin. If it went FA then the pin was probably jammed, probably full of comoline. If yours doesn't have a spring on the firing pin, I suggest getting one.

Another reason the SVT will "go Maxim" (uncontrolled fire) is the gas being set to provide too much impetus to the Bolt Carrier.

The Bolt Carrier is propelled rearwards MUCH too fast and BOUNCES off the rear surface of that trough-shaped Receiver.

Steel is MUCH more elastic than Rubber.

The Carrier then moves forward VERY fast, strips a round into the Chamber and the Firing-pin drifts into the Primer as the Bolt is locking-up, firing the piece.

In really extreme cases, the piece can fire in an UNLOCKED condition. This generally leads to the Rifle being scrapped, although there is nothing MECHANICALLY wrong with it.

This same flaw is inherent with the SAFN-1949.

The split Receiver of the FAL prevents it being susceptible to this problem.

GLOBCO 555, a sporter .303 conversion from Finn capture SVTs, was prone to this problem.

For safest and most accurate shooting with any of these rifles (including the FAL), the gas should be set so that the fired casings just clear the action.

PLEASE take heed.

yes. it did. that spring is quite weak - the mass of the pin is actually enough if your gas system is not tuned correctly. [guess who didn't 'dial it down' ;)]

maybe my nomenclature is wrong here, by free floating I mean not rigidly held like a mauser.. sorry for any confusion.

I appreciate your concern, mate. Safety is foremost in my mind as well.

I'm new to the SVT40. Will it function without the firing pin - bolt open and close, etc? The firing pin doesn't serve a secondary purpose at all?

It will still #### & click without the pin. Will is fire a round? - probably not, though loose or thin primer - who knows for sure. If a primer is seated to high above the case head, I suppose it is conceivable that the bold face could detonate it... slim odds at best.
