I was at the range the other day with my brother. He was shooting my SVT40. The first round of the first magazine, the bolt jammed forward and would only move back a couple millimetres. It took a couple good whacks to free the bolt then everything seemed fine. About 4 magazines later, on the second to last round in the magazine, it slam-fired. Startled me, my brother and the oldtimer shooting the single shot Cooey .22 down the other end of the gallery.

Can anyone help me explain this or let me know what to do to fix/prevent it? I noticed that the ammo seems pretty dirty but I would have thought it would take more than 25 rounds to have that affect anything...

By slamfire, you mean that the round goes off when it was chambered right? If so,check the firing pin to be sure its not dirty or rusted, disassemble and clean it well. Even is the pin is springloaded, if it get very dirty or rusted, that can cause slamfire.
