Svt40 that wont break the bank?

Any one know if its still possible to get am svt for less than 400?

I see them posted on gun sites but they tend to be soldout.

Saw some at the Red Deer gun show, 700. would you believe. SKS at 400. That's what happens when you come late to the party. :)

Grizz

Yeah I just don’t think that is going to happen unfortunately. Even Mosins have started to creep into the mid 300 range. When SVT-40 pop into the EE they are usually 800-1200?

Have you considered an SKS? Shooter grade can still be had for under 250 and under 600 with 1500 rounds of ammo. I always swore off them because I assumed they were garbage. I just picked up my first and was impressed with their build quality and function. I haven’t shot it yet but it feels like a nice sturdy semi auto.

Maybe if you have a friend or relative that’s giving you a good deal you might be in that range, on the used market or from a dealer I don’t see things coming down from where they are now. Start saving your loot cakes and keeping your eyes peeled, they were under valued for years imho.

No it's not. The only way to get a $400 SVT is to either buy an absolute junker or take advantage of some ignorant sob who doesn't know what they're actually worth. SVTs are about $700 and up, and that's about the end of it.

Sometimes you do come across a deal, but good luck finding it. For example I bought 90rds of 7mm Mauser on the stripper clips today for 25$. That is not even close to the current market price, but it is what it was sold at.

If people knew where to get one for less than 400$ they would be sold out and relisted on the EE.

Got mine for $600 from reliable gun in April, cheapest ive seen a freind get one recently was $550 although it was missing the gas piston rod. Id say watch the EE like a hawk youll never know when a screaming deal will pop up

This... swore I was done buying guns for the year as I bought three in a row really early. Then found good deals on an M38 and SKS I couldn’t pass up. Watch the EE long enough and you’ll find deals

Thanks all i had a hunch, looks like i gotta start putting some of those ammo dollars into the piggy bank for a bit

I thought about an sks, and may even get one some day.

But ive always liked the svt

Build a time machine. Of course if I had that technology I'd go back and neuter Zoolanders father, and Allan Rocks dad too. Or go back and buy all the Allied milsurps I could.

SKS are still relatively cheap. If you can, pick one of them up sooner, rather than later. Although they won't face the steep price curve that the SVT has, supplies from the arsenals are starting to run thin, and the price creep has already begun.

The SVT is a great gun, and a lot of fun to shoot. I lucked out and bought mine from the infamous "Lever Arms Christmas Special" a few years ago for $200, and the only thing I regret is only buying one.

However, the SKS is a more practical gun in almost every way. Easier to clean and maintain, more rugged, x39 is cheaper than 54R, and yet powerful enough to hunt deer with (which I've done).

Don't find yourself saying, in a couple years, "Dang, I wish I'd bought an SKS when they were cheaper..."

Just also console yourself that at $700 you are getting the "Soviet Garand" experience at less than half the price of an M-1 Garand... :yingyang:

And please, please buy an SKS before the question becomes "does anyone know where I can find a $400 SKS?"....

I got a 'deal' from a co-worker for 620$. My penance for going pfffft I'll buy one later, when they were basically buy a case of ammo get a free rifle...

10 years ago they were above 400$ as well. It was only a few years ago they dropped below that.

Exactly! The $200 to $400 sales were a brief aberration as importers, apparently, tried to move as much inventory as they could- quickly. They must have been paying for them by the pound. The market has now adjusted and doesn't seem to me to be climbing significantly. I've found at shows I can generally get $600.00 for a decent standard refurb but I would probably have dipped close to $500.00 to move one on. The most I've been payed for a refurb was $800.00 for a '44 with mint bore. Refurb Snipers have climbed least of all as examples I payed $750.00 for 4 years ago I've had to sell for around $900. Meanwhile, at commercial sellers (and at auction) standard refurbs seem to move at $700.00 to $800.00 levels (not including tax and shipping). Keep that in mind next time you see a nice one listed at $600.00 on the EE. Also, focus on condition more than on bottom-line price. Of the several I've sold at shows, hardly anyone asks to see the bore or takes the time to look carefully. Honestly, $600.00 is still quite a bargain for a fullbore semi-auto with interesting history and refurbished to decent standards.
