I have a squib in 6" barrel, Barrel is bulged so it's scrap. Does anyone know where I can get a new barrel? Local gunsmiths are having a hard time finding one, and SW won't ship parts to Canada

Murray Charlton does Smith warranty work so he's a good place to start. Dlask, Bits n Pieces, and a wtb add in EE would all be good ideas to. I'd bet that there's alot of barrels out there from old PPC and action builds that are near new.

Sorry for your loss, but, you didn't have a squib. You only bulge a barrel if you fire another round after the squib. Put a squib rod in your range bag or a heavy duty cleaning rod in case it ever happens again.

so he didn't have a squib load but you can only get a bulged barrel from a squib load? a squib rod is only good if you noticed the squib load.

if the barrel is clear now take it to the range and try shooting it, I have seen 2 handguns, one revolver and 1 semi that both shot better with a bulged barrel then they did before the boo boo occurred lol, also makes one helluva conversation piece on the firing line

I got a squib a couple of times in my colt king cobra, it was just the primer so the bullet just went half way up the forcing cone jamming the cylinder. Then I just got one in my ruger super Blackhawk 44 magnum, it must had a little bit of powder cause it went hallway up the barrel. I forgot to check the powder measure level and the plastic hopper is getting all fogged up to look through. I always have a 38 cal wooden dowel in my range bag.

I've had a couple over the years. Revolver and semi. I made a rod out of brass and epoxied it in big wooden ball bought from Home Depot (think it was in the railing or deck section). Easy to apply force with this one.

thanks for the reply's.. I'm checking into Murray Charlton. Must not have been enough powder, bullet is half way in barrel, got the first squib out. The second one that bulged the barrel is stuck good.

picked away at the one on muzzle end and got most of it out, Lead is fairly easy to work with.. a local gunsmith got the rest of it out somehow.. not sure how he did it, He took it in the back room. He tried to get the other one out but said the barrel was closed behind it so he couldn't hammer it out. Either way, barrel is pooched.

I had Murray change out the barrel on my 586 a couple of years back. He does good work and was great to deal with but it was a pretty long wait to get the barrel to him from Smith & Wesson. It's too bad S&W doesn't make a 586 barrel in 4.2" or I would've gotten that.
