SW ar-15 or colt m4 .22lr

I would say neither. They are both restricted so that is a big detractor. The 15-22 25 round factory mags are prohibited and pinned to 10. The Colt m4 mags are okay but be prepared to pay upwards of $60 each. The earlier models of the Colt M4 Jam like a strawberry so be wary of that.

However the 15-22 is by far the sweetest handling .22lr tactical rifle I've ever shot. It's light, solid and all the control surfaces work. (Like the bolt release) Although it has no forward assist (its rimfire that would be suicidal)

Colt m4 bolt release and forward assist are non functional and for show.

The 15-22 is priced around $600^ after tax and shipping your looking at $800.

The Colt M4 is priced around $900^ after tax and shipping your looking at $1100

As far as plinking guns these are like race cars that are forced to drive at 50 kph = (

There are a few other options out there... But if this is to be your first rifle, do the right thing. Get a Ruger 10/22.

Mine has been faithful since the word go. I plan on giving it to my son one day; hopefully he'll give it to his kid. (But I'll buy another for myself after they are so good)

I plan on owning only restricted anyways, I never leave the city
So if I'm ever shooting it will only be at the range, so I'm
Not worried about it being restricted. Just a good plinker, I love the tactical look of them

If you’re looking at looks over substance I would say the Mossberg 22 tactical is right up your alley. It looks Tacticool and it functions. Keep in mind its a Mossberg Plinkster inside a cool looking frame but it'll do the job and look 'ARish' while doing it. At $300 and non restricted its cool looking enough and ARish enough to meet your needs. The detractors are that it’s a cheap plastic gun so don't drop it. It has like 16 screws so takedown is a #####. Also the controls surfaces (like the rear charging handle) are just for show. But at $300 whos gona complain.

The Ruger SR 22 is basically a 10/22 in Ruger's Tacticool stock. I honestly don't see the value in it. At a price point of $700 dollar (without quad rails) it’s a bit pricey for what you’re getting. There are many pictures of SR 22 on the forum, I think the all dressed version will peak your cool looking gun interests.

Well all things considered I'd say the 15-22. If it weren't for the 10 round mags I'd buy one for myself. There are after market 50 round drum mags for it but they have problems. From a machine stand point the 15-22 is just better. It functions better and is assembled better.

I would recommend holding off for now. If this is going to be your first firearm don't get buck fever. I know you wana rush out and buy the coolest looking thing out there but hold on. Do some research and learn about what you’re buying, don't just rush in based off forum comments. Also learn what the law is about your gun and why. Good deals come and go but a lifetime ban is forever. A good shooter is a knowledgeable shooter and a knowledgeable shooter is a responsible shooter.
