Does anyone know if SW has improved their quality on their 500 SW revolvers? They had issues with ones made a few years ago. My local range had 2 away for reapairs so they brought in a new one. One cylinder through it and it was off for warranty work. It was shaving brass and spitting it back at the shooter. The forcing cone wasn't machined properly. I'm looking for a 500 SW revolver and am leaning towards a bfr from magnum. I already have a freedom arms in 50 AE so a double action would be a change. I'm just concerned about the quality issues these guns have had. Anyone know if they've improved manufacturing in the last year or so? I don't want to lay out a pile of cash just to have it off for warranty work. I will be shooting 325-350 gr loads.

I don't own one...yet. I've just read several reports that there are forcing cone issues (cracking after 3-400 rounds) and a few other bugs that shouldn't be happening to a top dollar gun. My local range has 3 that are for rent, and they're all out for repair. That's not a good sign. I know that you'll always hear way more bad stories about a product than good because people are always ready to ##### about a problem and those with no problems are usually silent. I just don't want to buy a gun that's designed for maintenance after 1000 rounds. Mine won't be a coffee table conversation piece, it'll be shot. Wouldn't mind hearing from people who own them. Even if it's good news. Actual owner opinions are good feedback.

I've shot several, and sold a few. Most won't see the round count a rental gun see's in their lifetime. which isn't to say that there should be issues, there shouldn't. If there where, you'd have seen feed back as several on here own them. Maybe try the Smith and Wesson forum..google search them

I hear that Taurus is planning on releasing a 45/70 Government Raging Bull for next year.

You could always hold out for that one.

Would love to own a Taurus. Actually looking for one in 500sw. Thing is I swage my own bullets in 50 cal. A 45-70 doesn't interest me. Making my own bullets really brings down the cost of shooting the 50's.

I've had mine a year, I'd have to count my brass for an exact number but I've only put maybe 75 rounds through mine and not a single issue yet *knocks on wood*

I know there is quite the blast when you unleash a round so maybe people were just not used to the shockwave. Apparently you can feel in the concrete floor 10-15 feet away when I'm shooting

Taurus has discontinued the Raging Bull 500, slow sales. There are a few out there, but good luck finding one.

If they release the 45/70-Government version, I'll be buying one for sure.
