Several years ago at Shot I handled the then new SW M&Pcompact and knew I had to have one. Well the Gun fairies have been busy and they finally reached Canada (thank you Questar). Ordered it, hummed and hawed as I awaited the pleasure of the BC CFO, finally it came in the mail.

The gun arrives in a standard SW carrying case, complete with 2 mags, 3 palmgrips in small, medium and large (medium fitted), lock, instructions and fired casings and of course the gun. I noticed that 1 mag comes with a finger grip and another a flat mag plate. The gun really feels nice in the hand and is quite light. It feels small, even though the dimensions are not that far different than the regular one. below you can see it compared with a M&P regular frame and G26. The G26 is chunky compared to the M&Pc, to be fair the G26 does have the Crimson Trace on it which does not help.

The slightly negative is the trigger is typical of the out of box M&P and I found it impossible to get 10 rds into the mags, these buggers are tight!! Will have to let them sit for a bit to loosen up. Next week hopefully to the range for some shooting. The gun fits the Serpa holster and the Tagla pancake holster for the M&P regular.

Hey Colin. I purchased the M&P 40 last summer & have put at least 500 rounds through it without an issue. It's feels good & is fun to shoot. Also quite accurate right out of the box. I was thinking about getting the M&P 9mm but I already have a Sig P226 9 so it will go on the back burner for now. Hope you enjoy yours as well.

I am very happy with my regular sized M&P, might get the Crimson trace grips for the compact once my bank account recovers from the 3 guns I just bought.

I had a full sized mp9, had to let it go to pay some bills, but picked up a mp40c off the EE. WOW! It's a fist full of dynamite!
It rocks! Way more fun to shoot, but using the flat bottomed mag you can expect a sore pinky! I curl mine under the grip with out the extended pinky rest.

I find my 40c saves me money on ammo, because I really don't have the urge to put more than a few mags through it at a time. It is super fun to shoot, just not terribly comfortable after a while.

So is the difference between the compact and shield the thickness? Lots of good reviews on the Shield down south.
This is what a G26 should look like, LOL

Yes, the Shield is a bit thinner than the Compact as it is a single stack, but that also means less capacity.

I got this gun out last weekend, it's a joy to shoot and much nicer in the hand than the G26, accuracy was not bad, took a bit to find the right grip. It comes out of the Serpa quickly and easy to bring up on target.

Currently I have just 2 mags for it, everyone is out, but I note that Brownells is selling grip extenders for their full length mags. Still can't get the 10th rd into either mag despite being loaded for a week.

You tube has a video on trimming the followers , to squeeze the tenth round in considering this myself , will go in but a chore !

Ya, the only way I was able to get the 10th round into my compact mags was with an Uplula mag loader.
