Looking for some information/education on this barrel I received with a purchase of a used Model 41 a few years back.
It appears to have been ported or ?? What would of been the reason to go to this trouble to do what they did?
Is there any value to this barrel as its just sitting in my safe taking up room as sold my pistol shortly after purchase.
Thanks

Are those set screws in the holes?

Yes, they appear to be........I did not try to remove them? Not sure if they are removeable?
Just removed 4 of them.......I assumed they were drilled through - appears they were once but not now??

Check that it is not chambered for 22short, it may have been ported in this fashion to provide the downward recoil absorption for international rapid fire before the rule changes that outlawed all of the old style pistols. The ports may be clogged up with lead, that often happened and it was part of the cleaning process to push the lead into the barrel. On the other hand if 22LR the optic mounting is most likely.

Thanks to all the comments/thoughts to this barrel. To get further down this rabbit hole, I used an Opti-Tek scope that I hooked up to my laptop and tried to get the best picture possible looking from the muzzle end of the barrel. This should eliminate the suggestion of used for a adding weight or optic mount. So it does appear that whoever did the work decided to fill the holes in but I may be missing something??
Forgot to mention - it does appear to be chambered for LR ammunition.
As it sits now, is there any reason I should try to sell this barrel on the EE of just use as a paper weight?
Thanks

Bubba strikes again:p You may be able to salvage it buy getting a barrel liner, however the cost is probably not worth it. Paper weight I guess.

Have you definitively established if the 8 holes extend into the barrel? There seems to be some confusion there.
1. If the holes do indeed extend into the barrel & act like a compensator, it’s sellable.
2. If the 8 holes do not enter the barrel & are merely mounting options for a red dot mount, it’s sellable.

My guess is that it's meant to be a compensator but it's kind of hard to know for sure what is going on with that...

I'd drop it on my frame and see how it works with and without the holes blocked if you know someone with a 41 local to you. Is it the 5" or 7" barrel?

That is the mystery behind this barrel. With the setscrews removed there is solid metal there........but you can clearly see from the inside of the barrel there used to be holes going straight through! Someone went to a lot of work to plug those holes up again and the work is very meticulously completed - looks like it would of been very time consuming to do let it alone the cost!
If there is anyone out there that wants to pay shipping to own this barrel to check it out further let me know.
I'm out of Moose Jaw, Sk so I would imagine $25 would get it to you or if your close by you could come and pick up a free barrel.
Cheers
