Swap aluminum chassis for XRS?

So my Savage Stealth shoots really good for factory. However I am wanting an XRS chassis for it. Mostly since I shoot in the cold with it and the aluminum is tough on my hands. Would I be crazy to mess with it? I would have to rework my load for it, but then I could add my barrel tuner before load development.
The only other thing would be if the XRS is taller that what I currently have, I have the largest gun boot I could find, and still had to hit it with the heat gun to make it just fit with my optic.

To be honest, I doubt swapping from one chassis to another (since the XRS is basically a chassis with skins) will significantly effect your accuracy. I'd just drop it in an XRS and zero/accuracy test with your existing load.

I usually run thin gloves inside mitts, or if it’s not too cold thin gloves and hot hands or whatever they are called. Sometimes on a cold sit, you have mitts off for a long time, then when you move locations and carry it, you really feel the cold aluminum.

The XRS is shorter top to bottom than a chassis system with a pistol grip (I compared my XRS to my LSS chassis). You don't get the same adjustment on the stock as you would with something like a Magpul PRS or MDT's SCS Skeleton Carbine Stock. The plastic cheek riser didn't stick to my face at -25 last Winter, so that's a plus. Even with a balaclava, the moisture created by your breathing can result in the material sticking to a metal stock as moisture freezes pretty quickly below -20. I run gloves inside mitts like you do, and have mitts with flip off ends that enable me to keep all except my trigger finger inside the mitt.

The other option is to wrap your current stock with fabric (I have used old long underwear sleeves/legs and socks as easy options).

My Savage 10TR was sensitive to torque values when putting it in the factory stock, to the point of having a noticeable affect on accuracy with a proven load. Not sure if this is an Accu-Stock thing or a Savage thing, but it made me very aware of the value of using a torque driver when installing an action into a stock/chassis. I like the XRS, with it's wide forend that makes it easy to maintain upright cant angle on the bag.

Thanks for the info! I feel maybe spraying it with plastic dip for the winter might help......a little maybe. I had wrapped camo tape before, the kind that only sticks to itself, but it was awkward.

Assuming that your current barrel is free-floating in the stock, if your replacement chassis is also free floating, I can't see why your existing hand load should require any rework?

Sorry if its a dumb question.... I'm a Rem 700 guy (with limited knowledge of Savage actions).

It seems like it should be the same, no idea if the harmonics change with a material difference and likely a weight difference though. No biggie either way.
