swapping barrels in a glock17

Absolutely not. You need a new Slide to go with the new barrel and magazine.

However, the G22 can go to 9mm with a conversion barrel and mag only :)

Can that be done with a factory Glock G17 barrel or does it have to be aftermarket? I supposed it makes sense to go after market anyway for a cut rifled barrel as opposed to the hammer struck polygonal stock factory barrel?

Factory G17 barrel works just fine in the G22 slide, however I agree with above for flexability with lead, using a non-poly barrel

I heard that the factory barrel is too loose... a conversion barrel has same diameter as .40 barrel (but chambered for 9mm). I've done this.

I haven't used a factory G17 barrel so I can't say for sure, but that is what I was told (and it sounds like it makes sense).

I have a G22 and G23 with 9mm and .357 SIG conversion barrels. One of the main reasons I switched to the .40 S&W Cal G22, and G23, and sold off all my 9mm Glocks, was for increased versatility with caliber conversion barrels. You can easily turn a .40 Glock into a 9mm Glock with only a barrel conversion, but as posted above, you can't turn a 9mm Glock into a .40 without a .40 slide.

While it may be possible to use a Glock 17 barrel in a G22 slide, the breech face and barrel hood and barrel diameter are all bigger with the G22. The smaller G17 barrel will be quite sloppy in the G22 slide.

best solution ...start your caliber conversion platform with the .40.

I use the G17 barrel in the G22 frequently and fit/function is just fine. However it is a gen 2 so there may be a difference in gen3 and newer.

Thanks for the info.... Can you recommend a conversion barrel to convert a G22 .40 cal to a 9mm? Source? Pricing?
