Planning to change out the springs.. Notice a lot of other do it, and also tune it up.
But when going to lighter springs, not many are taking weight off the hammer.

Anyone do this yet? Or know if its worth while to take some weight off the hammer?
Thanks.

Most spring kits comes with a few reduced power hammer springs. They will help your double action pull. You will have to test fire afterwards as sometimes weaker hammer springs will not detonate hard primers. I've had 2 GP100s with reduced power hammer springs and never encountered a problem.

EDIT: Opps, I kind of misunderstood the question.

Bobbing the hammer has been around since the beginning of time, you can also drill out the hammer in certain areas to reduce weight even further.

Might as well put the shims in too. I have not done the spring change to mine yet. If you drill holes in your trigger be sure to post up how it works.

Bought the Wolff spring kit and put a few different weight springs in my GP100 and had to go back to stock to ignite Fiocci primers. Federals are no problem though. 3 spring weights in the kits. 2 are lighter than stock and 1 is heavier.

I've never seen anyone with either Ruger or S&W that drilled the hammer. But I think you're on the right track. It's not the power of the strike after all. It's all about the speed of the strike. So it makes sense to make a lighter hammer.

The issue is that if you drill out the big area around the pivot pin the weight you remove is close to the center of rotation. So you don't really gain much. Where the weight really wants to be removed to get the most bang for the gram is further out away from the center of rotation. But there's not a lot of meat other than bobbing the hook that can be removed out on the arm of the hammer.

What about drilling out from the back, the end facing the shooter kinda along the spine? Could do several spots. Or a groove along the same spot.( Vertically)

This is a Smith from another forum, but the most aggressive hammer job I've seen
