Based on a post on another forum that stated that all Swarovski AV scopes were assembled in the USA,,I sent an e-mail to Swarovski to confirm or deny this rumor. It appears that all Swarovski AV and Z6 scopes sold in the USA,are assembled in their American assembly plant,in spite of the fact that they wear the "Made in Austria" label.

We've been proud to assemble the AV riflescope for probably 10-15 years. All of our technicians are either trained in Austria or by an Austrian. The parts are brought in from Austria. We are also assembling nearly all of our other riflescopes, including the premium Z6. We have the highest of quality control standards in the United States, just as they do in Austria. The two manager's in charge of this department have been with the company for almost 20 years. I'm not sure from your e-mail if this concerns you, but you can be rest assured that our USA production facility has been beneficial in all ways for the US consumer. If you have any questions, please get in touch with me directly at ellen.santagata@swarovskioptik.us or (800) 426-3089, ext. 2276.

Thank you for your question!

Swarovski Optik North America Ltd.

However,if you purchase a Swarovski scope product from an authorized Canadian retailer, you will receive a scope that was actually made in Austria,as this second e-mail states.

I didn’t notice until late yesterday that your e-mail address ends in CA, indicating that you live in Canada. (Canadian e-mails do not usually make it to my desk.) If you have purchased your Swarovski Optik products from an authorized Canadian retailer, they would have come from our Markham, Ontario distributor who is supplied directly by our factory in Austria.

My apologies for not having picked up on this sooner.

Just something to think about before deciding to import a Swarovski scope from the USA.

One other thing to think about, when one imports any Swarovski optic from the states, is that you have no Canadian warranty. My understanding is that the US warranty only applies to US citizens so if you have a problem Austria is where you send it.

Factor the potential shipping costs and hassle into the purchase and one might not be saving much.

This is done to avaoid the protectionist import duties the US puts on many items, the raw parts can be imported at a reduced tax rate than completed articles. So many of the bigger US companies like Swarovski USA, CZ USA, even Nightforce buy their product in other countries and assemble it in the USA to get around these high taxes and still have a product that is competitively priced.
They have the demand and buying power to pull it off.

I know why some companies choose this route, but my concern is with the labeling on the US made scopes.I checked several Swarovski AV scopes in the Post Falls Cabela's store a few weeks ago,and all had the "Made in Austria" label. To me that is at best misleading, and at worst false advertising.

Yes I agree. We run into that to a leser degree with NF scopes all being marked made in Japan, while only the parts are made in Japan the scopes are assembled in Idaho. I guess it is better than buying a German engineered and marketed car that is made in Mexico though:confused:
