Just wondering if its worth the extra money, Im essentially looking for a hunting scope that will be great (especially in low light conditions). Im wondering if I will see a big difference over a Leupold. They are not available locally so I could not look through them.

thanks.

At this time I have two Swarovski and haven’t had any problems with them at all and enjoy using them in low light conditions when it’s at the most critical time during sunset. If I had the $$$ I would get another one, however I will have to try the Zeiss Conquest on my next hunting rifle...

I have not used a Swaro but they are reputed to be near or on par with S&B, Zeiss Diavari, and Nightforce; all of which I am familiar with and have used.

The best way I can relate if it's worth the extra money is last weekend's day hunt. We were out from dawn till dark. My partners and I met up after shooting light at the truck. They asked me what took me so long. I said nothing. They had been there waiting for about 40 minutes because they could no longer see well. I said I still had ample shooting light.

They are using Leupold and Bushnell Elite - both good scopes. I passed my rifle over (empty chamber, bolt open) and one fellow said "F%#&, this ought to be illegal!" The second guy observed that he had questioned the amount I had spent on this scope but he now understood why.

My point is, if that last 30 to 60 minutes of shooting light is important to you, and you can afford it, buy the best glass you can afford.

OMG, they worth every penny. I had two and now own only one. It is a 2.5-10x42mm and its best advantage is in low light conditions.

I think that S&B equals them. With the SWA or S&B, you will never be disappointed. Only your bank account will suffer..

If you are at or approaching an age where you will be using reading glasses get a Swarovski .. the binocular style focusing on the scope eyepiece will let you "dial" in a sharp image of both reticle and image...quickly. I just got back from a hunt and found that the Leupold 1.75-6 VXIII I had put on the rifle would not quite focus properly even at the end of it's adjustment.... I have no problem with the Zeiss or Swarovski or S&B scopes (or even an old ScopeChief for that matter)

I do have a little 2.5 compact Leupold that works fine ... but this Leupold variable is a problem.

I've never had any problems with Leupold scopes during the last minutes of legal shooting light and my eyes aren't getting any younger ;) Can't see how any more light gathering ability would be worth the added expense in a scope. Binoculars perhaps, but not a scope :)

I compared a Swarvo 3-10x42 (set on 6x) against my Leupold FXIII 6x42, at dusk looking across a field, and I couldn't really tell any difference. Both are great scopes, but one costs $600 and the other $1500

+1. All my scoped rifles wear leupold, however my binoculars and spotting scope are Swarovski. IMHO, with respect to the bino world the difference is slight however in the spotting scope world the Swarovski is significantly superior.

Swarovski Habicht 4 - 12 50MM Sits on my 788 .308 Rem. An absolutely amazingly clear and bright scope with the ability to pick up jack rabbits camoed in their backround colour at 400 meters at dusk.

I have used both side by side and have to say that in the field it was a draw to me, Swarovski and Leupy make great products. I did see a difference but not in clarity, I found the Swar's to have a slight green tint, not good bad or otherwise, just how I saw it.

I can see into the last mins of legal shooting time with my cheap Weaver. You don't need a $2500 scope to shoot the last mins of legal shooting time, now if you shoot waay past legal shooting time it would probably be an asset.

Cheers!!
