Has anyone here owned or does own a Swarovski z3 3-10x42? Just wondering how they are in low light and just your overall impression. Looking for something for my 243 mostly for deer and coyotes.
 
I have that model Z3 on my 7x57, as well as a Z3 4x12 on a varmint gun, very good scope, great in low light, I have even used it night hunting with just moonlight, (different country) before everyone jumps up and down, Only may swarvo Z6, Z5 and lecia 2x10 have better low light performance,
I think the Z3 low light performance, is better than most other 1" tube scopes and certainly better than my Leopold X4, Vx3, Vx6 and Bushnell 6500.
 
The Swarovski Z3 line has the Swarobright coating, which in a nutshell, provides better colour rendition, particularly green. Together with a 42mm objective and 90% light transmission, you get an excellent exit pupil size and image brightness, even at the higher end of the zoom range, in lower light conditions. In-store customers comparing Swarovski products to many other brands that we carry often comment on how much brighter the Swarovski scopes are to look through (relative to Bushnell Elite, Zeiss Conquest HD5, Leica ER5, and Nightforce SHV for example). The other very nice thing about the the Z3 3-10x42 is the weight: only 360 grams...yet they hold up to hard hunting.

Awesome, I think my mind is made up, I want a light weight hunting set up for my girlfriend and a secondary rifle for me. It will be going on a tikka t3 lite stainless and should be a perfect combo. Thanks
 
For average hunting I would go to the brh over the brx. The x is great for varmints or situations where a fine crosshair is better. I feel the brh a much better for general hunting. Swaro's app for the iphone is pretty darn good too. Put in your velocity and bc and it will give you your numbers for each line. Screen shot your load and save it as your lock screen. Touch the home button and your drop chart is right there. I have a half dozen z3 on different rifles and each has a saved chart.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I'm looking at getting a z3 also and had a question about the simple plex reticle with the addition of the custom ballistic turret swaro offers.. do you have any experience with this setup? It looks like a simpler solution to me.

Figured I'd answer since I personally sell and setup a lot of Swaro ballistic turreted scopes.

The majority of the Swaro rifle scopes we sell have the BT with either the plex or 4W reticle. While using a second focal plane reticle can enable a faster shot, making adjustments for elevation on the turret is more precise, and avoids the inherent problems of ballistic reticles - namely they are designed for caliber groups or specific calibers (and cannot be adjusted), and the hold-over values are dependent upon the scope being set a specific magnification. The latter is very important to note and often results in a missed shot when the shooter does not set the magnification to the required setting.

The Swaro ballistic turret system is very easy to configure, and can be changed whenever the shooter changes their load (requires re-zeroing). If the shooter finds a favorable load, and/or has a healthy supply of factory ammo, then a custom turret (which engraved distances) can be ordered through a Swarovski dealer. Note however that this is not necessary, and many users never order a custom turret.

The turret system is not available in the Z3 3-9x36 or Z3 3-10x42 models, but is available off the shelf in the Z3 4-12x50 model (along with virtually all of the Z5, Z6, X5 and Z8i models).

I don't have any of the standard plex in mine, and I won't use turrets on a dedicated hunting rifle. Seen more than a few misses due to turrets not being returned to zero and once from being drug across the seat of truck a few times during the day getting in and out.
 
I have two rifles wearing the Z3 3-10x42, and two with the Z5 3.5-18x44. In all cases, the optics are clear and bright, the parallax is almost constant, and they track well, and hold zero. I have the standard plex reticle on the Z3s as they are on rifles that I will never shoot past 300 yards, and I have the BRH on the Z5 scopes. I find the BRX too fine for low light conditions.
