I have a couple of 6.5 x55 swedes which I use for deer hunting [on rainy days, sunny days I take my ruger 270 single shot]what would be an equivilent choice in a heaver caliber for moose/bear hunting?

I'm Not sure why you have different calibers for different weather patterns.

Just a heads up...the Swedes still use to great effect the 6.5x55 cartridge for Moose, and Bear. :)

not diferent calibers-diferent rifles-the ruger is a nice piece and I don't want to bang it up-the swede is bubba'd[I did it, no apologies either] and I carry it on rainy days-and shoot most of my deer with it.I was wondering about a 7x57 or an 8 mm in a milsurp that was well built, shot well, and had plenty of available ammunition

Both these will do the job as well.
The 7x57 tends to be limited in choices and somewhat underpowered I am told. I have never had one.

You might give consideration to the venerable Lee Enfield - with 180 gr RN's - more than enough stopping power, fast cycling bolt, detachable mag with 10 rds (just in case the bear keeps coming at you..) And you dont need to practice your sporterizing skills - theres lots around for 100 large.
I use a sported SMLE with a Lyman receiver sight for my rain gun - very functional, and happens to shoot quite well to boot.
