Trying to make up a "wanna-be" M94 - original stocks seem to be way out of my league, and not finding front sight guard to buy. Kind of stuck on the front sight guard - several pictures of the various versions in the "Crown Jewels" book and various Internet forums, but not seeing how they were attached to the rifle - do they have a long spring underneath, like the M96 bands, or a cross screw / cross bolt? Toying with idea of making one, but wanting to know what was the attaching arrangement?
This is about the original M94 sight guard, not the M94-14 alteration that allowed for a bayonet to be attached.

And, instead of searching for a "M94 front sight guard", I searched for a "M94 nose cap" - found picture on gun boards site - has that long spring underneath to hold it in place.

I'll be getting a complete M94/14 tomorrow. I'll text you photos of the front end hardware disassembled, can give you dimensions too.

Edit: Whoops, didnt read that you're after the original M94 configuration.

I guess it doesn't help much but I do happen to have a spare original M94/14 nosecap with bayonet lug laying in my basement. It is rusty but should clean up decently. PM me if you think you might be interested.

Could you cut down a 96 stock?

I am considering to do just that - I have one here for that purpose. Also have a pair of M94 hand guards on the way - the "slot" for the M94 rear sight base on the hand guard for M94 is much shorter than on the M96 handguards - until I get them here, I have no idea if they will fit onto the M96 stock. Also, M96 had a cleaning rod - so a 1/4" or so hole from front end to receiver - in that fore-stock, beneath the barrel channel - apparently the M94 did not have that - so until I get an M94 "nose cap", I really have no idea if a M96 stock can be cut down and adapted or not. May end up looking at a block of wood and my carving tools - hoping not to have to go that way.

And, as per previous poster, the "going price" on a "real" M94 stock is outside of what I would consider.

Again, pure "hope" and do not know for sure that a M96 receiver ring and the front sling swivel band from M96 is same as was used on an M94 - I do not know the sizes used. In the Crown Jewels book, I found a picture of an m/94-96 "Carbine for Engineers, Fortress Troops and Others" version that appears to have the identical sling swivel arrangement (below the rifle) as M96, instead of the "cavalry like" arrangement with the sling along the left side of the rifle like M94. Thinking I want to have some parts on hand before I start to cut into things. There was a unusual spring with screw for an original M94 nose cap - do not know if I can adapt a spring from an M96 or not. The M96 appears to have much longer finger grooves than the M94 stock had - no idea if it can be shortened without running into them - Lots to be considered... At least those longer finger grooves will assure that an otherwise correctly proportioned and cut down M96 stock will not be mistaken for an original M94 stock.
