I'm 99.9% certain I'll be picking up a blonde Swede tomorrow night.

It's all matching except the cleaning rod which is correct but has a different number.

It's in NRA VG to Excellent condition. No rust anywhere, VG+ bore, no import marks, all original finish.

It's in a store on consignment for $295. I've already called and asked them to hold it for me.

Is $295 a good price?

Is it a M96? M38?
What Maker?
What year?
What stock wood?

$295 is a good average price these days, as they seem to move at about $250-350 for all matching VG+.

M96
Gustav
Year unknown... The s/n is in the 200000 to 300000 range
I think the wood is beech, but it could be maple

Sounds very similar to mine, same range serial, all matching but cleaning rod, Carl Gustav manufacture, $295 is reasonable. (I paid about that much)

The s/n puts it between 1907 and 1912, none of those years being of particularly low production. If the stock is maple (and I doubt it), you should grab it at that price without delay, if beech, it sounds like a pretty pedestrian example at an average price.

OK, update time.

It's a 1904, with a serial number in the 150### range.

The stock is walnut

The stock disk shows markers for 6.51 and a bore rating of one.

I think maybe I did good, no?

OK, Here's the pics...

For under $300 I think you did just fine. I feel that these rifles are among the cream of the crop of milsurps anyway, freakin accurate to boot.

Congratulations......... at $295, I think you did good partner..... :)

They are a diminishing resource, so if you take care of her over the years, you'll do better than the stock market on appreciation .... ;)

The bonus is that they are a lot of fun to shoot.....

All my Swedes, particularly the snipers, love the Swedish Service Ammunition (click here)http://imageevent.com/badgerdog/swedishservicerifles/swedishserviceammunition. Find some and post us a range report.

Andy might be able to give you good hand load mix, if you do your own re-loading.

Badger

I shoot mostly cast bullets, but my favourite jacketed load is:

140gr bullet, H4831, 47.0 gr

The 6.5x55 works best with powders on the slow side. If you want to choose a single powder for bullets weights between 120 and 160 grs, H4831 is a good choice, but like all powders, it won't be your best choice for each bullet weight. Reloder 22 would also be a good choice but I have heard complaints about temperature sensitivity with it.

Well, Sellier and bellot ammo is really sooty, and I was getting soot all the way back to the bolt face...

The rifle is very accurate. My wife and I were consistantly hitting 5/5 gongs at 200M and 300M today.

Needless to say I am pleased.
