Hello all,

Well, the restoration project for my Swede M-94 is going strong with my recent aquisition of an M-38 stock set, but I have hit a major snag. I do not know how to take off the nose cap and band! I need to do this to shorten the wood/modify the nose cap etc. Here are the pictures of the bands.

Please help!

Push down on the flat springs where they meet the bands and slide the bands forward. The spring has a lug which mates with a recess in the inside of the band. Just like the front band on a Type 38 Arisaka.

Swede Barrel Band Removal Push down , or pry down on the locking clip ( metal bar just behind the sling loop) approx 1/4 in and the band should slide off. You may have to tap it lightly.

Spring

You have to depress the spring blade that holds the bayonet lug.
Usually, you always remove the cleaning rod, put a small block on the blade near the front band and use a small C-clamp to depress the spring blade and clear the inside hook that holds the piece.
Then you tap out that front band. Nothing complicated.

Great. Thanks. Now. How can I remove that spring? I will need to cut about 2-3 inches of wood off the front of the stock and move the spring/band back. I might just leave the spring off and use tension to tighten the nosecap. What I was hoping to do was have the front sight right in the middle of the barrel-retaining band on the top of the nosecap, and cut a clearance for it. This would leave two slightly-arching "nosecap ears" to simulate the M-94 type, with a little difference. Opinions? Ideas?
