Hi,

I'm looking at buying a Swedish M1887 Husqvarna Nagant, and was wondering if any collector would know if one with a serial number in the 5800 would be an antique (pre-1898)

Many thanks!

Possible that it's an antique, but confirmation would be needed (such as an FRT reference). Here's a quote I found about this model:

Husqvarna manufactured only 14,000 revolvers from 1897 to 1905. Due to attrition over time, collector desirability, and such low production numbers, the M1887 revolver is getting difficult to find. The revolver is almost identical with Norwegian M.1893.
Note: "Military Firearms: The Collector's Price and Reference Guide 3rd Edition" lists total production at 13,000 units. Many of those were apparently sold commercially as well (non-military). No breakdown of serial number ranges is available though. :(

A way to make sure beyond any doubt would be to call the CFC technicians and ask. While you're at it, you can also request the RCMP letter to be sent to you (if they confirm it's an antique). Good luck!

They won't letter one with a serial number that high as an antique. A couple years ago they might of, but about a year ago I contacted a firearms tech about one with a serial number in the low 1000's. Here's the response I received:
"I am sorry to say that this particular firearm cannot be considered as an antique. The Husqvarna Asenal only produced 350 of this model in 1897."

Thanks 762mm!

Killer_Kanuck....... we are talking about the Swedish M1887 7.5 Husqvarna Nagant Revolver here.....

I would be very surprised that they didn't manufactured at least 5800 pieces in 10 years of production, unless the revolver was only manufactured starting in 1897....

i had a nagant M.1887 revolver and got an rcmp antique staus letter for it back in 2007.
serial number 873

I used to have in the low 1000's that had an RCMP letter. They won't issue a letter for one in that range now though. The tech sent me this scan (guess it's the first 350, not 300)
