I'm looking for help from the CGS community, particularly Swedish Mauser owners. I'm trying to remove the barrel bands on my recently acquired M38 and am failing miserably. I can get the springs compressed and the bands wiggling freely but I can't get them off. I've clamped them, employed another set of hands, the works - it seems to make no difference. It just feels like there's a bit of extra material on the springs that I can't clear with the bands. Has anyone experienced this? Am I just babying the bands too much? I'm going to suggest that this gun was lightly used...there are a couple of dings on the stock but very little actual wear. Any help would be hugely appreciated...

I found that you need to get the band wiggling a bit first, then you need to use something to push the spring down. Your fingers just won't push it far enough. A square screwdriver wrapped in a cloth worked for me, then you can force the band over it.
